Inquiry 3 in EDUC 6329

This inquiry is divided into five parts:

  1. Introduces the context of the student's work.

  2. Describes and analyzes the student's work in an objective tone.

  3. Write feedback on the piece.

  4. Reflect on the feedback.

  5. Write a reflection on the whole process.

The reason I chose to present this inquiry is that the whole process taught me a lot. I found it quite tricky when dealing with the descriptive review process. I'm inclined to insert my personal feelings while evaluating the piece, and the outcome is biased. Individual preferences can cause evaluations to stray from objectivity, making the feedback less helpful for students to improve their work. I think learning the descriptive review process is very important because it reminded me always to maintain an objective attitude.

The process of writing feedback and reflecting on it is also one that will stay with me for a long time. Although I have learned how to give positive feedback to students in class, I still need to improve when applying it in practice. I made many apparent mistakes when I gave my students the feedback, and I was relieved that it was just a training exercise and not real-life teaching. Reflecting on the feedback helps me correct my mistakes and deepen my impression.

Overall, this inquiry allowed me to re-examine the process of academic communication with my students from a bystander's perspective. It provided me with a perfect framework for reflecting on my teaching deficiencies and laid a good foundation for applying this framework in my future teaching. I want to thank Dr. Amy for designing this helpful assignment for us.
